Obligatory cute kids picture. One of our projects is a neighborhood park we’re building (not quite sure how that got allocated to business, tourism and community beautification?), but don’t worry— Mason and Richard are all over it. Both of them have had part time jobs in construction, and they’re more than capable. The town doesn’t have a baseball field, so we’re building one and today we put up posts for the backstop. A ton of the neighborhood kids came out (they didn’t have school today), and they were a huge help! Mason and Richard decided to take a break after they put in the first four posts, so Amy and I were hard core and put up the last two, and we seriously couldn’t have done it without the help of the kids. They were helping us carry a 100lb bag of concrete, they were getting water for us to mix with the concrete in the holes, they did a lot! I’m really glad they’re getting a park to play in. I also think it’s a good sign that the kids are helping out, too. If they make it their own park, I think they’ll be more likely to take care of it. We have a lot of ideas for incorporating the kids in the park building process— planting trees, putting their handprints on the benches in paint— it should be really great.
